Each October Sunderland Libraries Literature Festival brings together a vibrant mix of authors, thinkers, and artists to the city, providing inspiration and entertainment. The festival is the perfect place to explore the depths of literature with fellow fans, see your favorite local authors in action, and of course, discover new writers and illustrators, including talks, workshops, book launches, and numerous other exciting events.



2 Nauseating Nature

The Nauseating Nature trail returns every October with more foul facts and stomach-turning tales about the underworld of wetlands and the wildlife that lurk within. 3 Cabaret Sunderland


Cabaret features show-stopping choreography, dazzling costumes and iconic songs ‘Money Makes the World Go Round’, ‘Maybe This Time’, ‘Cabaret’ and more. Starring John Partridge as Emcee, Kara Lily Hayworth as Sally Bowler and Anna Harris as Fraulein Schneider. The stage is set it’s 1931, Berlin is a haven of divine decadence and the legendary Sally Bowles is about to take the stage at the infamous Kit Kat Klub.



4 Sunderland Classical Piano 77th Concert Season


Presenting a series of piano recitals at the Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens. The season runs from September to April annually and includes six public concerts of a high standard, all on Tuesday evenings. This year's season opened with a recital of sheer perfection given by Dinara Klinton who played to an enthusiastic audience. The recital began with five works by Tchaikovsky ending with the Andante Maestoso from the Nutcracker Suite which was brilliantly played with both power and virtuosity and followed by the Beethoven Sonata in A major, op. 101




5 Sunderland International Airshow


The Sunderland International Airshow is the biggest free entry annual airshow in Europe, held at Roker and Seaburn shorelines. It takes place over the course of three days, the 2020 dates are 24th July to the 26th (Friday to Sunday), and attracts around 2,000,000 spectators every year. The airshow features a large number of planes, including the Red Arrows and the Eurofighter Typhoon.
